MAPS 4
If passed, MAPS 4 will be the latest installment of the Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) which has been used for the last 25 years to build debt-free, transformative projects like Bricktown Ballpark, the new convention center, the Bennett Event Center and many others. Residents across Oklahoma City have responded enthusiastically to Mayor Holt’s call for transformational MAPS 4 ideas that uphold our diversity, promote unity and keep our city competitive. The multipurpose outdoor stadium is one of several other projects being reviewed by council during special public meetings as they work to shape the final MAPS 4 ballot. |
Multipurpose
Beyond professional soccer, such a venue would serve numerous outdoor event concepts from live concerts and movie nights, to youth and high school soccer championships and rivalries, to other showcases of other pro sports including rugby, lacrosse, motocross, boxing and x-games. Currently, Oklahoma City lacks a venue necessary to compete for the opportunity to host Big 12 games, NCAA, NAIA and junior college soccer, U.S. Soccer, many high school championship events, U.S. Youth Soccer, college and club lacrosse, international and club rugby, NCAA DII football bowl games, e-sports and drone racing events. Including an outdoor, multipurpose stadium in MAPS 4 sets us on the right path for a diverse sports economy that keeps us competitive with the rest of the country well into the future. |
Outdoor Venue
Sized in accordance with USL, MLS, U.S. Rugby, Major League Lacrosse as well as Oklahoma Secondary School Field regulations, the stadium as proposed would seat between 8,500 -10,000 people for sporting events and accommodate 16,500 - 18,000 for outdoor concerts and cultural events. It would be designed to allow for renovation to expand capacity. |
Sports Future
With 82 percent of Oklahoma City identifying as sports fans in a 2018 Nielsen study, Oklahoma City’s insatiable sports appetite is clear. According to the same study, 51 percent of Oklahoma City’s direct market area are interested in or follow soccer. In fact, here in Oklahoma City, “world cup” was the most searched term in 2018 on Google. This speaks to soccer’s accessibility and affordability for families across socioeconomic and cultural spectrums. Soccer bridges together a multitude of diverse backgrounds within our city. |
